Florence Besch is making giant strides in her musical development. In her second album, “Gathering Hearts,” she sublimates her ability to transform fragile honesty straight from the heart into raw power. The result is an effervescent, dreamy sea of guitars with her usual strong, genuine lyrics.
In a unique blend of 90s Shoegaze and Indie Rock, peppered with many tender pop moments, Besch creates her own genre – Dream Grunge. She draws inspiration from legends like PJ Harvey, Courtney Love’s band “Hole,” and Nirvana.
The emotional, soft voice floats – sometimes vulnerably, sometimes like a middle finger – over menacing, exciting soundscapes. In between, there are warm clearings with driving, bright riffs, shifting rhythms, and drums that sometimes sound like juicy heartbeats while other times transitioning into cool punk.
In her clever, sensitive lyrics, she explores themes of love, loneliness, and time as fixed stars to which she continually returns. The album starts with “Nightsong” and ethereal guitar sounds: “You’re only free when you’re lonely. Left behind, like the stars in the sky.”
In “Hibernation” Besch runs after trains, in this “Hyper Nation”, where you always seem to be too late, Besch would like to freeze time. The bass and drums are accompanied by flashing interference sounds. Is this what the heart sounds like when it goes into hibernation?
“No Compromise” is a Fuck You to those who want to use you. “Words of Elegance” is another smack in the face. The money-hungry ignorance sprouting in many minds is doomed to fail. “Tick-Tock.” Time is running out. How much longer can this go on?
The last song, “Cracks,” leads through a vast and dreamy soundscape. Besch creates the warm world she wants but she runs out of stones while building it. She tapes up the cracks. An ode to the freedom to shape one’s own life.
With “Gathering Hearts,” Florence Besch creates an independent symbiosis of bold fragility and punky defiance. A personal album on point, clearly staking its claim in the music landscape.

Florence Besch legt eine musikalische Entwicklung in Meilenstiefeln hin. In ihrem zweiten Album „Gathering Hearts“ sublimiert sie ihre Fähigkeit, fragile Ehrlichkeit direkt aus der Mitte des Herzens in rohe Power zu transformieren. So schwappt einem ein aufbrausendes, dreamy Gitarrenmeer mit von ihr gewohnt starken, echten Lyrics entgegen.
In einer einzigartigen Mischung aus 90s Shoegaze und Indie Rock, gespickt mit vielen zärtlichen Popmomenten, formt Besch ihr ureigenes Genre – Dream Grunge. Inspiration findet sie bei Legenden wie PJ Harvey, Courtney Loves Band „Hole“ und Nirvana.
Die sensible, weiche Stimme floatet mal verletzlich, mal per Mittelfinger über bedrohliche, spannende Soundteppiche. Dazwischen finden sich warme Lichtungen mit treibenden, hellen Riffs, changierenden Rhythmen und Drums, die mal wie juicy Herzschläge klingen, mal in kühlen Punk übergehen.
In ihren klugen, feinfühligen Lyrics thematisiert sie Liebe, Alleinsein und die Zeit als Fixsterne, zu denen sie inhaltlich zurückkehrt. So startet das Album mit „Nightsong“ und sphärischen Gitarrensounds: „You’re only free when you’re lonely“. Zurückgelassen, wie die Sterne am Himmel.
In „Hibernation“ läuft Besch allen Zügen hinterher, in dieser „Hyper Nation“, in der man immer zu spät zu sein scheint, möchte Besch am liebsten die Zeit einfrieren. Der Bass und die Drums sind mit blitzenden Störsounds versehen. Hört sich so das Herz an, wenn es in den Winterschlaf geht?
„No Compromise“ ist ein Fuck You an jene, die einen benutzen wollen. Nochmal geradewegs auf die Schnauze geht es in „Words of Elegance“. Die geldgeile Ignoranz, die in vielen Köpfen sprießt, ist zum Scheitern verurteilt. „Tick-Tock“. Die Zeit läuft. Wie lange geht es noch so weiter?
Der letzte Song „Cracks“ führt durch eine weitläufige, dreamy Soundlandschaft. Besch
schafft sich die warme Welt, die sie möchte, aber beim Bauen gehen ihr die Steine aus. Sie klebt Pflaster auf die Risse. Eine Ode an die Freiheit, das Leben selbst zu gestalten.
Mit „Gathering Hearts“ schafft Florence Besch eine eigenständige Symbiose aus mutiger Fragilität und punkiger Rotzigkeit. Ein persönliches Album on Point, das ganz klar seinen Platz in der Musiklandschaft einfordert.
